Excellent for small increments in load. I use them with loadable dumbbells (2 bags are needed for that) and they let my girlfriend progressively overload stuff like lateral raises with balanced dumbbells instead of having an extra 1.25 kg on just one side, and even then from ~3.5 kg to 4.75 kg would be too big a jump.

Grab an extra pair (set of 4 if you use them with dumbbells) of 0.5 kg plates to let you load 1 and 1.125 kg per side.
